The Foundation for the Care of Children - FAN Foundation- works on improving the living conditions of children between 3 months and 6 years of age offering them comprehensive care, which includes nutritional counseling, early stimulation, and promotion of healthy living habits, recreation, and psycho social support to their families, initial education and skills for their daily life.

The FAN Foundation orients its work towards children younger than 6 years of age who live in the poorest neighborhoods of the city of Medellín. It is during this stage of life where children establish the bases of their development, and their future life will depend on the quality of these conditions. Conditions such as malnutrition, child abuse, lack of stimulation, health problems and inadequate health services  affect their physical, mental, spiritual and emotional development.

“A brain developed under adequate conditions allows children to grow up as healthy, intelligent and happy citizens capable of a building a Colombia in peace"

We go where nobody goes: Children whocome from displaced families, single mothers, prostitutes, street vendors, families with very few economical resources, which are at high risk due to child and sexual abuse, and because of neglect and economical exploitation by part of their adult guardians.

Healthy children, happy children

Early infancy (0 to 6 years of age) is the stage of life in which a human being establishes the bases of their development and depending on the quality of conditions a child has during the first years of his life, the present and the future of our country will be defined.

This is why through our Healthy Children, Happy Children project , FAN Foundation implements actions regarding health promotion and prevention, which generate healthy environments and enhances the affection bonds within the family structure, allowing children to develop to the maximum of their potential.
The main activities of this project are:

  • SIPI encounters: We have a multidisciplinary team which includes a physician, a dentist, a nurse, a nutritionist, a psychologist, a social worker and a phonoaudiologist, who permanently evaluate and follow children´s families to establish their health status.
  • Family schools: Educational activities are implemented with the families, with the goal of promoting a good relationship with the children generating different abilities in the adults, giving them the chance to participate in various activities in which their daughters and sons are involved.
  • Family encounters: We promote recreational spaces where parents and their children can play together and strengthen their love and affection bonds.
  • Joy festivals: Campaigns are done to promote healthy life styles and habits among children and their families.
